Feature Ásanas

This issue of AMAYE Voices features two of the ideal ásanas Anandamurti recommended for meditation.  However, sometimes these can be difficult and often excruciating for the yoga meditation practitioner.  Other meditation ásanas include the following:

Bhojanásana or Sukhasana

This posture is frequently referred to as the tailor’s or eating pose.  It is a comfortable position, having the buttocks rest on a cushion or blanket can be helpful. Cross the legs at the ankles and knees, placing the left leg on top and the right leg below. Some reverse the leg position. Essentially, this is the common cross-legged position. Ankles can be away from the body.

Vajrásana (Thunderbolt Posture)

This is also referred to as the Zen pose after the Zen monks who practice it almost exclusively. This is not recommended for beginners. A cushion, folded blanket, or zen chair can be placed between the calves and thighs. Kneel on the floor and sit back on the heels. Each heel is positioned under its respective buttock.

The two other Ananda Marga Ásanas for meditation descriptions are edited versions from the more comprehensive AMAYE Ananda Marga Ásana Guide.
